Getting mental health care can help you learn to overcome your challenges and meet your goals. If you’re looking for psychotherapy in North Carolina, consider online therapy. While there may be mental health clinics and independent practices in the state, it can be challenging to find in-person treatment. An online therapy platform like BetterHelp can help you overcome barriers like a lack of in-network providers or transportation challenges.

With BetterHelp, you can work with a mental health professional who will guide you through the counseling process from the comfort of your home at a time that works for you. While BetterHelp does not currently offer treatment to children or adolescents, experienced providers are familiar with various treatment modalities that provide individual therapy to young adults, middle-aged people, and seniors.

Therapy can help you overcome a number of challenges, including improving low self-esteem, learning healthy coping skills, navigating family conflicts, or undertaking self-exploration. If you’re looking for a therapist, NC has many telehealth services available. The providers below are licensed to provide therapy across North Carolina and can help you take steps toward living your best life.

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina with over 15 years of experience working as a Therapist and Care Manager. I have worked with individuals with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, career challenges, and ADHD. I also helped many people who have experienced physical trauma or emotional abuse. My counseling style is warm and connected. I believe in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion. My experience includes working with adults, adolescents, children/families, and group work. I employ evidence-based treatments for mood disorders, anxiety, grief & loss. Specifically, my counseling approach is using cognitive-behavioral techniques and self-guided help. I will individualize our dialog and treatment plan to address your specific needs. The counseling relationship is a professional relationship based on trust, security, and mutual respect. In working together, the focus will be on you and your concerns, and will not involve my personal life or concerns. Because the counseling relationship is professional and not social, contact with you will be limited only to counseling sessions and telephone contact necessary for your treatment. These limits are designed to protect your best interests and to ensure that all energies are focused on your concerns. I believe that everyone I engage with should be able to have a better, more harmonious well-being every day and I look forward to helping you achieve that goal.

I began my working career as an elementary school teacher. Together, my students and I worked on academic goals. I soon noticed that learning issues of some of my students stemmed from relationship problems at home and at school. This effected learning behaviors often producing non-compliance, anger, depression, and anxiety for these children. These behaviors, sometimes with diagnosed or undiagnosed mental health issues, were usually not being addressed clinically and were taking a toll on their academic progress. I continued my education in counseling to better understand these learning barriers so that I could assist children and their parents. As I learned, I gained knowledge and skills to not only help children and parents, but also to help adults and families to navigate life’s problems and to attain their goals. Goals for the counseling process are associated with maintaining healthy relationships as well as adapting various changes that can produce a positive impact upon our lives. During therapy, my clients are made aware of the power they possess, how to dodge problems, how to accomplish goals, and how to perceive life in a positive manner. I now realize that I cared for my students more than for their academic progress. I cared about their personal well-being. I wanted them to feel productive and capable. I wanted them unencumbered by life’s problems but to have the resilience to overcome their deep seeded issues that affected their lives as a whole. I am interested most in sharing what I have learned to influence people reach their goals. It would be a privilege to assist you in this work.

I have counseling work experience in residential, community agency, university counseling centers and private practice settings. I have experience with adolescents and adults providing personal, psychoeducational and psychosocial counseling services. I also have experience working with couples and families. Additionally, I have experience working with adults who are in crisis, involved with the court system and the Division of Social Services. My orientation to counseling is based on cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, developmental and systemic theories of counseling. I also employ Rogerian, reality therapy, and Gestalt techniques. I believe that the primary process of counseling involves helping clients to find the resources within themselves in order to develop requisite skills and address themes related to their presenting problem(s) or underlying issues. My supervision training includes three years of counselor supervision in a university counseling center setting and ten years of administrative counselor supervision also in a university setting. I currently supervise aspiring counselors. I continue to receive supervision training via conferences and on-line classes. I have had a private practice for over fifteen years. I look forward to working with you. Let's get started.

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor and my background includes working with adults, adolescents, children, married couples and parents from different socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds. I have provided a variety of mental health services including working with people suffering from anxiety, depression, anger management issues, family conflict issues as well as parenting issues. I would consider myself to be eclectic and use techniques from several different therapy modalities. Most often I use techniques associated with the Cognitive-behavioral approach, which focuses on identifying the client’s current pattern of thoughts, recognizes potential areas of change or improvement, and modifying behavior. I understand that as individuals we operate within the context of our family structure, cultural background, social environment and religious beliefs. I utilize mindfulness techniques along with Cognitive behavioral approach as well as Solution focused therapy and Person-Centered therapy. During the process of therapy we will address areas of concern, devise a plan to resolve those issues and learn new effective coping skills while considering all the aspects of who you are as a person. My philosophy as a therapist is that everyone deserves to be treated with respect and compassion for their own unique situation. I believe in respecting and honoring all people in the most positive and supportive way I can. I recognize that every situation is different and when someone reaches out, they are willing to move toward change for a happier life. I look forward to working with you to fulfill what change will look like for you. Let’s start the journey together!

I strongly believe you should feel comfortable with the therapist you choose and should have a positive therapeutic relationship. I believe that each and every individual is capable of self-direction and growth. In counseling, I strive for a therapeutic relationship with each client that is facilitative to those ends. During sessions, I strive to maintain an environment containing unconditional positive regard, empathy, and genuineness. My therapeutic style is primarily based on an eclectic style, however, I am a Christian therapist but will never push my beliefs on to you. I graduated with a M.A. in professional counseling. We give meaning to our beliefs, which in turn influence our feelings and behaviors. Beliefs are formed from life experiences, both positive and negative. We often feel that our emotions are controlled by others. This, however, is not true. We possess the power to control our thoughts, change our feelings and ultimately modify destructive behaviors. I am trained in EMDR and theraplay The goals of my treatment are helping lower emotional turmoil, symptom reduction, and/or reframing the presenting problem. I will work in collaboration with your primary care provider or psychiatrist, if you are on medications. I will provide psycho-education to you regarding any mental health diagnosis you receive. I look forward to working with you.

Frequently asked questions (FAQs)

Some commonly asked questions can be found below.

How much does a therapist cost?

Mental health professionals can differ in price. Forbes found that the average cost of in-person therapy in the US is around $100 to $200 per hour. Pricing can also vary based on your location.

BetterHelp offers payment plans of $60 to $90 per session, charged monthly in a lump sum. You can also take advantage of this pricing on one of BetterHelp's sister platforms, like ReGain for couples or TeenCounseling for teens aged 13 to 19.

Many therapists may be upfront about their pricing and whether or not they take health insurance from the beginning. Additionally, some in your area may offer a sliding scale plan to allow those with lower incomes to pay less for therapy. However, services online can often save individuals a few hundred dollars per month.

How do I know if I should get a therapist?

Mental health services and mental health providers may help you navigate various concerns. You do not need a diagnosis or condition to attend therapy; You can discuss grief, relationship concerns, stress, or life changes and ask for general advice. A counselor may help you gain power over your life and emotions while you navigate day-to-day experiences.

Mental health issues don't always present as a crisis. Many professionals provide talk therapy and support for life transitions, skills learning, relationship problems, or life coaching. Online therapy sessions in North Carolina can allow clients seeking therapy to experience professional help through video, phone, or live chat sessions without commuting to an office.

Does insurance cover therapy?

Different counseling services can vary in cost. Therapists must apply to accept insurance through insurance companies, which may take time and money, so not every therapist offers services through insurance. If you cannot find a therapist that accepts your plan, BetterHelp may be cheaper than visiting an in-person therapist.

Is online therapy safe?

Online therapy through BetterHelp and its sister platforms is safe. Therapists are licensed, experienced, and vetted before being contracted with the platform. If you experience any concerns with your therapist, you change your counselor through the platform or app at any time.
